People Development Specialist

Smart, Savvy + Associates has partnered with our client, a provincial natural resources company, in their search for a People Development Specialist. Reporting to the department manager, this role supports an assigned division with its employee training and development needs, through advising, facilitating, and planning. About the role:

The People Development Specialist works with key internal stakeholders to provide employee development services, hands-on learning opportunities, and identify programs to increase leadership skills within existing team members. Main areas of responsibility include:

  • Develop strong internal relationships with key stakeholders and work in collaboration to identify and plan opportunities for skill training and leadership development
  • Coordinate and/or facilitate development programs, aptitude/personality testing and programs, and mentoring opportunities to support employees’ career and personal growth
  • Partner with team members to continually develop and implement best practice for design and delivery of employee development programs
  • Participate in the ongoing assessment and maintenance of the internal online learning management system
  • Collaborate with company leadership to identify opportunities for succession planning and related plans for leadership development within departments
  • Manage vendor relationships, partner with Human Resources leadership on contract negotiation, etc.

About you:

  • Post-secondary education in Human Resources, Business Administration or related area
  • 4+ years’ experience in developing and delivering employee development programs for a large and complex employee group
  • Additional certification in relevant leadership and assessment programs/tools for use in assessing skills, competencies, personality, etc.
  • Dynamic and effective facilitation skills, delivers training to small and large groups
  • Strong knowledge in the areas of adult learning principles, change management, and leadership development
  • Independent in problem-solving, decision making, addressing conflicts, prioritizing tasks, and managing own workload
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with ease in building relationships, communicating with individuals across an organization, and gaining trust and confidence of team members.
