Communications Manager

You are a communications leader who is skilled with pen and paper, but equally enjoys meeting the public and media in face-to-face engagement opportunities. Smart, Savvy + Associates has partnered with our client, an organic food company, in their search for a Communications Manager. This role reports to the Communications Director, and works collaboratively to support the company vision related organic food production and increasing brand buzz with consumers and media. About the role:

The Communications Manager is an ambassador for the company and its brand, using storytelling to effectively drive bottom-line results and support the vision. The role works in collaboration with team members to develop campaigns that get people talking about the brand, far past the stage of awareness. Main areas of responsibility include:

  • Support strategy development and tactical execution of communications plans and strategy
  • Lead internal team members and external partners through strategic roll-out with adherence to schedules and budgets, ensuring on-time and on-budget results
  • Analyze campaign results and prepare regular reports for media coverage, individual campaigns and throughout the business cycle
  • Develop and nurture relationships with local and national media outlets, as well as with social media influencers and bloggers
  • Create a range of communications materials for media, speeches, website, business development, etc.
  • Support company leaders and appointed spokespersons with preparation for media / public speaking opportunities; act as spokesperson as required

About you:

  • Post-secondary education in communications, journalism, public relations or related area
  • 7+ years of communications / public relations experience
  • Demonstrated experience leading a team including budget management, project management, and through all aspects of campaign development and execution
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills with confidence to work effectively with team members, executive leadership, and external media / influencers
  • Enthusiastic interpersonal style, with ability to interact authentically with general public and team members across the organization
  • Strong storytelling skills for both digital and traditional channels, with ability to take complex ideas and condense into effective and interesting stories
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, collaborative, team-oriented environment.
