Events & Sponsorship Manager – short-term contract

You are a highly organized events professional with experience heading up events of significant size and scope. Always looking to raise the bar with each event, you can run with your light bulb moments and turn concepts into detailed tactical plans for your team, leading them through events from set-up to evaluation. You’re a strong collaborator, and work effectively with leadership, team members, and external vendors and stakeholders.

Smart, Savvy + Associates has partnered with our client, a large and established provincial (BC) organization, in their search for an Events & Sponsorship Manager. This approximately six-month contract role works with a small team of marketing and community engagement professionals, as well as event staff. About the role:

The Events & Sponsorship Manager is responsible for the organization’s corporate event strategy and delivery, from concept through to execution. Projects include large-scale, public engagement events, internal team events, and informal activities / celebrations. Main areas of responsibility include:

  • Collaborate with leadership and human resources teams on event strategy and overarching goals and objectives; recommend new ideas and innovations for best brand experience
  • Manage event budgets including recommendations and sourcing of suppliers and equipment; reconcile budgets after events, negotiate service contracts, maintain financial records
  • Coordinate event materials as required, working in collaboration with internal teams and external service providers
  • On-site during events, overseeing pre-site delivery, coordinating equipment and services, trouble-shooting, event staffing coverage, etc.
  • Partner with human resources to recruit and hire event staff / brand ambassadors, provide appropriate training prior to each event, and on-site supervision

About you:

  • Post-secondary education in event management, marketing, or related area
  • 7+ years’ experience in event management, preferably in a corporate setting
  • Demonstrated event experience in both small and large events with leadership for planning, execution, and managing budget
  • Experience leading team members and event staff
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with ability to develop collaborative relationships at all levels of an organization as well as with external stakeholders
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with confident presentation ability
  • Excellent project management skills – delivers on time, on budget, and reports key results for multiple projects/events
