Sales Director

You are a successful sales pro in the travel industry, with significant experience building and leading high-performance sales teams. Smart, Savvy + Associates has partnered with our client, a travel and tourism business, in their search for a Sales Director. This role reports to the Vice President, Sales & Marketing, and is responsible for the development and management of sales operations for one of the company’s Canadian divisions. About the role:

The Sales Director is responsible for key areas of the sales program: sales revenue and market share; strategic planning; budgeting and cost management; employee management and development; and business leadership. Main areas of responsibility include:

  • Develop and execute sales strategy, conduct client analysis, maintain accountability for sales representation and client accounts
  • Translate overarching strategy into departmental goals and objectives with correlating quarterly sales plans
  • Grow sales base through business development activities including partnerships, distribution channels, brand awareness, joint trade initiatives, etc.
  • Create and manage budgets at a departmental level, with processes in place for individual sales rep budget reporting, costing, expenditures, and resource management
  • Lead sales team through feedback and skill development activities, clear and consistent communication, reward systems, and performance management
  • Aligns all sales department strategies, objectives, and outcomes with overall business goals

About you:

  • 5+ years’ sales experience in the travel industry, including working with group travel, agencies
  • 3+ years’ experience in senior sales management, with demonstrated record of building high-performance sales teams
  • Strong business acumen with skills in financial management / budgets
  • Excellent verbal and written communication including confident presentations, persuasive negotiations, and ability to build effective relationships with diverse personalities
  • Demonstrated experience in strategic planning and developing results-oriented plans that support overall business goals
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Salesforce
  • Available for 30% business-related travel including international travel
